Absolutely. The Alpha was specifically designed for a hex dumbbell combination of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 lb — that setup gives you the most optimal spacing between tiers.
Yes, a pair of 50 lb dumbbells will fit on the bottom tier, although the spacing between tiers won't be optimal. For the best spacing experience, we don't recommend exceeding 50 lb on the bottom tier. If your set skews heavier, check out the Alpha Elite — it's built specifically for 50-150 lb dumbbells.
If you think you'll expand your dumbbell collection over time, we recommend the Alpha so you have room to grow. Either way, you can expand into a horizontal rack at any point with our Expansion Kit.
The handle slot has 4.32" of space — more room than a standard vertical rack. That extra clearance is there specifically to keep your fingers out of the way when racking and unracking.
The most commonly used dumbbells for this rack are hex, urethane, and Peloton square dumbbells. To confirm your specific combination fits, refer to the Dumbbell Fitting Guide Dimensions — you can also find this PDF under the Product Documents section above. Your dumbbell handle must be at least 5" long to sit properly on the rack.
